On what plane do we live on when the Central Pacific temperatures ago up, and anomalies drop by a whole degree? There was no El Niño comparative to all previous strong events, the dateline and Nino 4 temps were always higher.

There was no El Niño in 2023, other than using anomalies. RONI, MEI, VP, SOI, all of these measures failed to reached El Niño thresholds for a consecutive 90 day period. SSTs were on average 4 degrees cooler at 140 West than the dateline for the entire so called event.
